The Four Layers of Anti-Counterfeiting: Why a QR Code Alone Is Not Enough

Many brands stop at printing a QR code on the package. Unfortunately, a counterfeiter can mass-copy that code with a single photo. Effective anti-counterfeiting is a system, not a code.

Layer 1: Physical

Fluorescent fibers, thermochromic ink, holograms, microtext — they raise the physical bar for forgery. Cheap and consumer-visible, but alone they cannot stop "genuine label, fake product".

Layer 2: Digital

The core of one-item-one-code: every unit carries a globally unique, algorithmically encrypted code that cannot be enumerated or forged. Dynamic color-shifting codes make copies expose themselves at verification time.

Layer 3: Data

Even if a code is copied, data tells the truth: the same code queried in different cities within hours, or queried far more often than normal, triggers automatic risk flags. AI risk scoring detects forgery patterns at scale.

Layer 4: Evidence

Key traceability records anchored on blockchain become admissible legal evidence — the decisive step from prevention to prosecution.

How to choose

Fast-moving consumer goods can start with digital + data layers; high-value goods (wine, cosmetics, pharma) should deploy all four. See O1M multi-layer anti-counterfeit technology.
